MERCERSBURG, Penn. – Blue Springs Egg Farm, the cage-free egg-laying facility developed by Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch, is celebrating its first year in operation.

The ribbon was cut at Blue Springs Egg Farm one year ago today, and since then, more than 500,000 egg-laying hens have produced eggs; more than 150 people from the local region have been hired in various good-paying jobs in egg production, processing, sanitation and warehouse and Blue Springs has supplied eggs to the northeast United States.

“We are grateful to be part of the Mercersburg community and proud to supply fresh, ethically sourced eggs to the northeastern United States,” said Derek Stoy, environmental health and safety engineer at Blue Springs Egg Farm. “Looking back on the last year, it’s exciting to see how much Blue Springs has grown and the benefits our local community has seen as a result.”

Blue Springs Egg Farm is a more than $100 million economic development project for Franklin County and an economic boon for the entire region. The facility incorporates leading sustainability practices and utilizes the most innovative technology in the poultry industry and is focused on being a good neighbor to the region, donating more than 100,000 eggs to local organizations.

Blue Springs team members are celebrating this month through an employee appreciation event.

Herbruck’s has maintained its commitment to hiring local residents as part of the Blue Springs team, and is proud to pay competitive wages and salaries, as well as 100% of employee health insurance premiums. Blue Springs Egg Farm is currently hiring, and available opportunities can be found online.
