Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch considering expansion in Mercersburg area
Family-owned company cites community partnership, opportunity for job creation
SARANAC, Mich. – Herbruck’s Poultry Ranch, a fourth-generation family egg producer based in Michigan, announced today that it is considering an expansion in the Mercersburg area. The plan, which is not yet finalized, could create an estimated 190 full-time jobs.
“We’re still in the planning stage of a potential expansion in the Mercersburg area, and want to work in close partnership with members of the community, local leaders, local businesses, and partners across the agricultural supply chain from the beginning,” said Greg Herbruck, executive vice president of Herbruck’s. “We believe that an expansion of our company’s operations in the Mercersburg area would be a win-win for the community in terms of job creation and local economic development.”
Herbruck’s supplies farm-fresh eggs to retailers and food service outlets across the nation. Herbruck’s is well-known nationally for leading the egg industry on sustainability, animal care and environmental stewardship.
For example, Herbruck’s invented a technology that processes hen litter into organic fertilizer, on-site. This technology isn’t in use anywhere else in the nation, drastically reduces odors and provides a nutrient-rich fertilizer for local farmers. Herbruck’s also uses energy efficient equipment and processes at all facilities.
“To be successful, we count on an abundance of local businesses and farmers that we can partner with for local services, grain, feed, packaging and supplies,” Herbruck said. “Local partnerships have been a cornerstone of our business approach in Michigan. One of the major reasons we believe the Mercersburg area is a great fit is the deep tradition of agriculture in the community.”
As a multi-generational, family-owned company, Herbruck’s takes pride in its reputation of doing what’s right, and partnering closely with local communities. The company was founded in 1958 by Harry and Marilyn Herbruck in Ionia County, Michigan, and its roots stretch back to the late 1920’s when Harry Herbruck, Sr. started a Michigan-based egg business.
